Description
Jack Hertz gets small with two new compositions that reflect on our conflicted view of reality known as the Wave/particle duality. The concept in quantum mechanics. Argues that every particle or quantic entity may be partly described in terms not only of particles, but also of waves. It expresses the inability of the classical concepts "particle" or "wave" to fully describe the behavior of quantum-scale objects. As Albert Einstein wrote: "It seems as though we must use sometimes the one theory and sometimes the other, while at times we may use either. We are faced with a new kind of difficulty. We have two contradictory pictures of reality; separately neither of them fully explains the phenomena of light, but together they do."

A supermoon is the coincidence of a full moon or a new moon with the closest approach the Moon makes to the Earth on its elliptical orbit, resulting in the largest apparent size of the lunar disk as seen from Earth. The technical name is the perigee-syzygy of the Earth-Moon-Sun system. The term "supermoon" is not astronomical, but originated in modern astrology.[1] The association of the Moon with both oceanic and crustal tides has led to claims that the supermoon phenomenon may be associated with increased risk of events such as earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, but the evidence of such a link is widely held to be unconvincing.
The music on this album was composed during the Supermoon on June 22-23, 2013, as the closest and largest full moon of the year and the Moon’s closest encounter with Earth for all of 2013. The music was created on the following equipment: Korg M3, Nord G2, Yamaha TG33 and Lexicon Effects.
Jack Hertz works with real and artificial sounds to create intangible techno-organic impressions between music and noise. Jack has worked with many artists over the 30 years he has been playing. He has released more than 35 albums on netlabels around the world and receives regular air play on many radio stations. More information can be found at http://jackhertz.com

Release notes:
This recording is pays homage to Vernor Vinge's Science Fiction novel "A Fire Upon the Deep." A gripping tale of galactic war told on a cosmic scale. The novel posits that space around the Milky Way is divided into concentric layers called Zones, each being constrained by different laws of physics and each allowing for different degrees of biological and technological advancement. The innermost, the "Unthinking Depths", surrounds the galactic core and is incapable of supporting advanced life forms at all. The next layer, the "Slow Zone", is roughly equivalent to the real world in behavior and potential. Further out, the zone named the "Beyond" can support futuristic technologies such as AI and FTL travel. The outermost zone, the "Transcend", contains most of the galactic halo and is populated by incomprehensibly vast and powerful posthuman entities.

This artist's concept illustrates the new view of the Milky Way, along with other findings presented at the 212th American Astronomical Society meeting in St. Louis, Mo. The galaxy's two major arms (Scutum-Centaurus and Perseus) can be seen attached to the ends of a thick central bar, while the two now-demoted minor arms (Norma and Sagittarius) are less distinct and located between the major arms. The major arms consist of the highest densities of both young and old stars; the minor arms are primarily filled with gas and pockets of star-forming activity.

In the Fog Note:
In the Fog is a long form ambient drone composition that was inspired by the legendary fog of the San Francisco Bay Area. As a resident of the Pacifica coast, I have grown to love and apprecite the mystertous nature of the mists among us.
This music was performed live on the Time Drone radio show May 18, 2012 at Electro-Music.com. The soundscapes were created with the Native Instruments FM8 soft-synth, Music From Outer Space Sound Lab analog synth and the Korg Karma keyboard synthesizer.

Artist Info:
I have been playing, composing and recording experimental music for more than 30 years. My first experiments with sound were in the early 1980s with analog reel machines, microphones, percussion and a Casio VL-Tone. My first true synthesizer was the Alpha Syntauri digital synthesizer that was was hosted by an Apple IIe PC. The steep learning curve exposed me to a universe of concepts nearly a decade before others. Soon after, Yamaha's DX7 the vast capabilities of FM synthesis that I have been working with ever since.
Generally, I am searching for a sonic middle ground between the real and the artificial. Utilizing synthesizers and digital effects almost exclusively. I design my own instruments and effects with unique characteristics that create spaces and atmospheres a listener can explore.
I am particularly interested sound design with synthesizers of all kinds, especially FM synthesis. I do find all aspects of creating sound fascinating. From the early percussion instruments to the present day hardware and software innovations.
Today, I am working to engage old and new aspects of electronic music to define new and amalgamated sounds. Taking queues from classic electronic and popular music. My approach is basic, yet robust. Perform on vintage hardware that is processed and controlled with contemporary technology. As an artist. This allows me the tactile interaction I need as a performer with kind of the control I want as a sound designer.
